This is a photo from one of my first leads in an independent short film. I LOVED acting and this job was so much fun. It was shot in Palm Springs on location for a vintage 60’s style romantic dramedy.

Then in 1999, I got sick after doing a popular detox program that all of my friends were doing. You never imagine something like that can just stop you in your tracks but it can. You never know when your life can change on a dime.

From that point I continued to get worse and worse until I couldn’t work anymore. I remember being on set for a Sprint commercial.  I went to my trailer to lay down and couldn’t get back up again. I literally could not get my butt up and out to finish my job.

At that time, I was barely sleeping. I couldn’t remember my lines and the makeup team had a hard time dealing with the skin around my eyes and lips being red, swollen and flaking off. My energy was so low and my fatigue was so high that I could NOT perform at the level needed and I felt so embarrassed and humiliated that I could not push through and make it go right. I went into my agency the next morning and quit.

Cut to 2009 and now I’m healthy and the struggle is over. I feel better than ever before. I have certainty that I will never be sick again and it’s like someone pulled two hundred pounds of weight off my soul!
