Why you don't feel like yourself anymore

Why you don't feel like yourself anymore

There may not be one single symptom that explains why you don't feel like yourself anymore.

Maybe your energy isn't what it used to be. Your sleep has changed. Your digestion is unpredictable. Your mood feels different. Your brain feels foggy. Your focus isn't as sharp. You don't bounce back from things the way you used to.

And the hardest part?

You may not be able to point to one thing and say, “THAT is the problem.”

You just know something has changed.

You don't feel like YOU.

When Your Whole Body Starts Feeling Different

This is one of the most frustrating things about chronic symptoms.

You may start by noticing one thing. Maybe you're tired all the time. Then your sleep changes. Your digestion becomes more difficult. You start reacting to foods you used to tolerate. Your mood changes. Your focus isn't there.

Eventually, you can start making your life smaller just to work around how you're feeling.

You turn down plans because you're exhausted.

You stop eating certain foods because you don't know how your body will react.

You can't think as clearly at work.

You wake up tired even after spending enough time in bed.

You start wondering if this is just aging or if this is your new normal.

This is where I want you to think about your symptoms differently.

The question isn't only, “What symptom do I need to fix?”

The bigger question is:

“What is keeping my body from responding the way it should?”

Your Symptoms May Be Part of a Bigger Pattern

I look at chronic symptoms through what I call the 5 Layers to Illness.

The first layer is toxic burden.

Your body is exposed to things every day through your food, water, environment, household products, medications and other sources. When that burden builds faster than your body can handle it, it can create inflammation and put stress on immune function.

Then comes digestion.

If your digestive system isn't working properly, you may not be breaking down, absorbing and using the nutrients you're eating. You can be eating healthy food and still not be getting what your body needs from it.

Then you can develop an inflamed immune response.

Things you once tolerated may suddenly seem to bother you. You may start eliminating more and more foods because you're trying to figure out what is going on.

Then there are hidden sources and pathogens that can add to the overwhelm.

And all of this can happen before you have something that clearly shows up on standard labs.

That's why someone can have real symptoms while being told, “Everything looks normal.”

The health reboot materials describe these layers as building over time, with symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, low energy, mood changes and sleep problems showing up along the way.

What Keeps People Stuck Isn't Always a Lack of Effort

This is important because I see people who are already doing so much right.

They're eating better.

They're exercising.

They're taking supplements.

They're researching.

They're trying to figure this out.

And they're still stuck.

So they assume they need to do MORE.

Another supplement.

Another diet.

Another elimination plan.

Another test.

Another protocol.

But sometimes the problem isn't that you're not doing enough.

The problem is that something is interfering with your body's ability to respond.

This is where nervous system interference, blocking and switching become important in my framework.

When the body is blocked, people can feel like nothing works.

When the body is switched, they can experience that maddening pattern of better, worse, better, worse.

Something works for a while.

Then it doesn't.

You make another change.

Then another.

And eventually you start wondering if your body is simply incapable of responding.

That's not the conclusion I want you to jump to.

The question is whether something is getting in the way.

Why Adding More Isn't Always the Answer

When you're desperate to feel better, adding something new feels like the logical thing to do.

But if the body is already overwhelmed, more isn't automatically better.

We need to look at the layers underneath the symptoms.

Is toxic burden creating interference?

Is digestion preventing the body from properly using nutrients?

Are hidden sources keeping the body challenged?

Is inflammation keeping the system reactive?

Is there nervous system interference?

Is blocking or switching preventing the body from responding properly?

These are the questions that change the conversation.

At Treat the Source, I use Functional Interference Testing (FIT) to identify areas of interference and create a customized naturopathic approach based on what your unique body is showing.

The goal isn't to force your body to do something.

The goal is to remove what is in the way so your body can respond.

Feeling Like Yourself Again Starts With Finding What Changed

If you've been feeling different for months or years, don't dismiss that simply because you can't name one problem.

Pay attention to the whole picture.

Your energy.

Your sleep.

Your digestion.

Your mood.

Your focus.

Your ability to handle everyday life.

Your resilience.

Your pattern of feeling better, then worse, then better again.

Those pieces matter.

And if you keep treating each symptom separately, you can spend years playing whack-a-mole with your health.

One symptom improves.

Another shows up.

You treat that one.

Something else changes.

Meanwhile, you're still asking the same question:

“Why don't I feel like myself anymore?”

That is why I don't want you focused only on the symptom that's bothering you the most today.

I want to understand what happened underneath it.

The Goal Isn't to Manage a List of Symptoms Forever

Your body was designed to regulate, protect, digest, absorb nutrients and maintain balance.

When something is interfering with those functions, the answer isn't always another thing to add.

Sometimes, the missing piece is removing the interference.

That's why my approach looks at the 5 Layers to Illness, toxic burden, digestion, hidden sources, immune overwhelm, nervous system interference, and blocking and switching.

We work through the layers instead of endlessly chasing whatever symptom happens to be loudest that week.

In Immune Restore, we focus on reducing the overwhelm, supporting digestion, addressing toxins and hidden sources, and removing interference so the body can begin responding.

In Repair & Rebuild, we work on the deeper imbalances that helped create the dysfunction so the body can function with less support.

Then comes Maintenance, where the goal is for your body to maintain balance with minimal support because it is doing more of what it was designed to do.

That's the difference between chasing symptoms and treating the source.

You May Not Need to Become a Different Person

You may simply need to find out what is keeping your body from functioning the way it should.

Because underneath the fatigue, brain fog, sleep problems, digestive issues, mood changes and low resilience is still the person who wants to wake up feeling good.

The person who wants energy for their family.

The person who wants to think clearly.

The person who wants to enjoy food without constantly worrying about how they will feel afterward.

The person who wants to make plans without wondering whether their body will cooperate.

The person who wants to feel like themselves again.

If you keep asking, “What else should I try?”, it may be time to ask a different question:

“What is keeping my body from responding?”

That question takes you underneath the symptoms.

And that's where we can start looking for the hidden sources, the interference and the layers that may be keeping you stuck.

Because the goal isn't to become better at managing symptoms.

The goal is to remove what is in the way so your body can do its job properly—and so you can feel like YOU again.
